Agency History

The Burris Insurance Agency was originally founded in 1984 by mother and daughter Veneta Burris and Elizabeth “Anne” Humphrey. The first office was located in the back of the current building. Then after spending a few years on N. Mulberry, the office was moved back to its current location at 240 West Dixie, just down from the State Theatre and old Courthouse Square.

Sadly in 2008, co-founder Veneta Burris passed away. However, Anne Humphrey is still involved with the agency. In 2024, long term and valued employee Paula Brunnell made the decision to retire. At that time, Anne made the decision to merge with Independent Agents of KY, a 65+ year old insurance agency, based in Louisville, KY. The Burris Insurance office will remain at the current location. In addition to new staff, we now have access to many more insurance carriers and lines of business with the merger. Our staff has over 100 years combined experience in the insurance industry and we look forward to serving you!
